Make a wish at the thumb hole in Hagia Sofia
Istanbul is a beautiful city full of culture, history, amazing art, and wonderful legends. Inside the Hagia Sofia, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is a unsuspecting column. This column is covered in bronze plates and located in the northwest corner of this fantastic building. It goes by many names, some of which include, The Justinian Column, the Perspiring Column, and also the Wishing Column. It has been said to have been blessed when Justinian rested his aching head upon the column and was cured of a migraine headache, which is where the rumors of the column's healing properties come from.
For thousands of years, people have been sticking their dirty little fingers inside this hole in the wall hoping for something to happen. Today, putting your fingers into the hole and rotating your hand 360 degrees is believed to bring good luck, cure you of your ailments, and also grant wishes. What they dont tell you is that the hole in the wall tends to be quite clammy and wet (hence the name the Perspiring Column). Make sure you pack your softsoap antibacterial scrub homie.
