Finding the little mermaid in Copenhagen harbor isn’t that difficult. The difficult part is getting to see the lil one when she isn’t over run with tourists. The little mermaid was originally commissioned by Carl Jacobsen, son of the founder of Carlsberg brewery (you have to go there while in Copenhagen, it' s awesome!) in honor of he Hans Christian Andersen fairytale of the same name. When we visited the statue, we rented bikes and rode from our hotel close to Nyhavn, to Langelinie promenade on a quiet afternoon in March. Lucky for us, there were maybe 5 people there so grabbing photos with this mascot of Copenhagen couldn’t have been easier! If you do happen to go searching for the little mermaid, make sure you take some time to explore the surrounding park. There are tons of bike trails, scenic spots for pictures, and the remnants of one of the best preserved Danish star fortresses called the Kastellet. Have fun, Copenhagen is a beautiful city!
